How pay works in the UK

  • The National Living Wage and National Minimum Wage go up every April. Check the current rate for your age on gov.uk.
  • Income tax and National Insurance are taken from your pay through PAYE. Check that your tax code is correct.
  • Workers get paid holiday by law, and most employers must put you in a workplace pension.

Never pay for a visa sponsorship

Selling a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) or charging workers for a sponsored job is illegal in the UK, but many Nepalis have lost large amounts this way. Visa rules for care workers have also changed several times. Check the current rules on gov.uk, check the employer on the official register of licensed sponsors, and never pay an agent for a job offer.
